Welcome to the colourful city of Accra, Ghana’s energetic and vibrant capital.
The 2024 ISMD conference will held on the campus of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in the heart of the vibrant city of Accra. GIMPA is located just 10 minutes from the airport and within 20 minutes of popular beaches and places in Accra.
Travel Visa
If you are travelling from overseas, you might need to apply for a visa to come to Ghana. You can check the visaindex.com website to see if you need a visa. If you need a visa, we recommend applying for your visa as soon as possible, and no later than one month before your travel date to Ghana. If you need a support letter for your application, please contact the conference co-chairs.
Getting Here: Flights
Kotoka International Airpot in Accra is the main airport for those flying in from outside of Ghana. The airport is in the heart of the city and only 7 mins from the conference hotel and 10 mins from the GIMPA campus (conference venue)
- Airport Welcome and Pickup: We will be arranging airport arrival welcome and pick up to take international guests to their hotel, so please notify the conference chairs of your flights and arrival times
- Airport Taxis: You can also arrange your own transportation from the airport by picking any of the taxis at the airport. We advise that you only one of the licensed taxi services.
Accommodation: Fiesta Royale Hotel
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Fiesta Royale for conference attendees. This is the designated conference hotel. The hotel is within driving distance from the conference, about 5 minutes away. Transportation will be provided twice daily to facilitate arrivals to and departures from campus.

Things To do: Accra & Ghana
Accra City Tour

As part of the conference activities, we will take a guided tour of Accra visiting important national landmarks such as the Independence Square, Osu Castle, Du Bois Centre, and the National Museum.
Cape Coast/Elmina Castle Tours
Also included in the conference activity is an optional full-day educational tour of the former colonial commercial, government, and slave castles in Cape Coast and Elmina. The Cape Coast Castle is the largest of the buildings which contains the legacy of the trans-Atlantic slave trade and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This will be on 14 December, the day after the conference formally ends.

Apart from these planned tours that take you to some of the most important and iconic locations in Ghana, there is still so much more to do in your free time and if you plan to arrive earlier or stay a bit longer after the conference.
Detty December
December is also the most fun month in Ghana and is popularly know as Detty December. During the festive month, it’s all like a big party in Ghana due to the many events that are organized throughout Accra and the rest of the country. It is the best time to be in Ghana and we will share some of our tips for events you can attend during the conference.
Getting Around
If you want to explore Accra on your own, we recommend using Uber, Bolt or one of the ride-hailing services. If you plan to rent a car, major providers such as Avis and Europcar are available. For other transportation needs, please notify the conference chairs and we will be happy to help.
